INTRODUCTION

EL IDEAL En nuestro país al terminar sus estudios, los jóvenes de 15, 18 o 25 años están abocados al paro la mayoría. El 60% de los jóvenes menores de 25 años están en paro. ¿Cómo preparan los educadores a la juventud ante ese hecho, o han optado por ser enseñantes y dimitir como educadores? ¿Se ha educado a los jóvenes para que luchen contra ese problema desde la acción moral liberadora o servimos al imperialismo económico colaborando a que la juventud sea resignada y mansurrona? ¿Somos conscientes de que la tarea educativa es siempre acción política? ¿Nos hemos planteado, jóvenes y educadores, que si el 60% de la juventud está en paro y no lucha es porque no ha tenido educadores? ¿Acaso si el joven encuentra testimonios militantes en su familia o en su cuadrilla de amigos no es capaz de dar la vida? Estamos cometiendo la gran estafa a la generación de estos momentos ocultándole que por encima de la evasión, del dinero, de la explotación en sus diferentes formas, de la buena vida, del consumo y de la estupidez está el Ideal. Todo ser humano se realiza en la medida en que cultiva las cualidades que lleva en su ser; Entre esas cualidades hay una sobre la que convergen las demás: el amor. Amar es fundamentalmente darse a fondo perdido, que en nuestra época se llama solidaridad, definidas con hechos por los pobres como “comunicación hasta lo necesario para vivir”, es decir, hasta la misma vida. Cuando los pobres de Europa meten esto en la vida social de los pueblos, en el siglo XIX, realizan el hecho cultural mas importante de la Historia para la liberación de los oprimidos. Desde entonces millares y millares de personas han dado su vida por solidaridad con los empobrecidos. Nos toca seguir un camino que otros recorrieron antes. No somos los primeros; ellos dieron su vida, nosotros todavía, no. Nos entusiasma su actitud y eso anima nuestro caminar. Las tierras y lugares que vamos a recorrer con las Marchas por la Solidaridad están sembradas, han sido testigos, de grandes esfuerzos y sacrificios solidarios. Entre ellos, el sacrificio de muchas vidas humanas. El 16 de abril de 1995 asesinaron en Pakistán a Iqbal Masih por luchar contra la esclavitud de los niños. Luchador por la paz, no cabía en un mundo imperialista. Cristiano consciente, dio su vida a los 12 años. Honremos el 16 de abril su memoria. Es el ejemplo de la juventud del nuevo siglo. Este siglo que llegará con paro, hambre y esclavitud renovadas por el imperialismo económico. Nuestras juventudes necesitan un horizonte sin dependencias. Nuestras familias no deben vivir bajo la amenaza del 50% de la población activa en el paro. Partidos y sindicatos sirven al imperio. Lancemos de forma sistemática, periódica, constante, nuestra protesta moral liberadora, en la vía pública y en jornadas de reflexión, exigiendo a todos los poderes públicos, universidades, partidos y sindicatos planes concretos para que desaparezca el paro, el hambre y la esclavitud. Si nos movilizamos obligaremos a los poderosos a responder: No toleremos la pasividad de la sociedad fomentada desde los poderes públicos y privados. ¿Se puede romper la manipulación de conciencia?. Se puede ... si se QUIERE. Pero no con un querer perezoso, sin sacrificio, de impotencia. Es necesario un QUERER con todas las consecuencias que traiga el cultivo de la libertad y la voluntad humanas. Ello exigirá romper las cadenas de la información, de los saberes insolidarios, de las formas de vida consumistas y del espiritualismo religioso, para unos, y, para otros, las cadenas del embrutecimiento que impone la miseria. Para unos y para otros, exigirá ese QUERER de liberación hasta poner en juego la propia vida. -Julián Gómez del Castillo-

THE IDEAL In Spain, most young people of 15, 18 or 25 are doomed to unemployment when they finish their studies. 60% of young people under 25 are jobless. How do educators prepare the youth for this fact, or have they chosen to be teachers and given up their job as educators? Have young people been educated to fight against this problem through a liberating moral action or to serve economic imperialism by being resigned and unresisting? Are we aware that the educational task always entails political action? Have young people and educators considered that if 60% of the youth are unemployed and do not fight, this is the result of not having had educators? It is possible that if youngsters could find militant testimonies in their family or group of friends, they would be able to lay down their lives. We are swindling this generation by concealing from them that the Ideal is above evasion, money, exploitation in its different forms, above the good life, consumption and stupidity. All human beings fulfill themselves by cultivating the qualities in their being. These qualities include one upon which the others converge: Love. Love is pure disinterested gratuity of self, which in our times is called solidarity, defined through actions for the poor such as "communication of what is necessary to live", that is to say, even life itself. In the 19th century, when the poor in Europe bring this to people’s social life, they take history’s most important cultural action for the liberation of the oppressed. Since then, thousands and thousands of people have laid down their lives in solidarity with the impoverished. It is our turn to follow suit. We are not the first ones, others have laid down their lives before but we haven’t yet. We are inspired by their attitude, which encourages us to walk. The seeds of solidarity have already been sown along the paths our Solidarity Marches will walk; paths that have witnessed great efforts and sacrifices in the name of solidarity, including the toll of many human lives. On 16th April, 1995, Iqbal Masih was murdered in Pakistan for fighting against child slavery. He was a fighter for peace and there was no room for him in an imperialist world. Christian conscious, he laid down his life at the age of 12. Let us honor his memory on 16th April. He is an example for the youth of the 21st century; a century with unemployment, hunger and slavery renewed by economic imperialism. Our youth need a horizon without dependencies. Our families do not have to live under the threat of 50% of the active population being unemployed. Political parties and trade unions serve the Empire. We must systematically, regularly and steadily launch our liberating moral protest on the streets, on days of reflection, demanding that all public authorities, universities, parties and trade unions implement action plans to eradicate unemployment, hunger and slavery. If we mobilize ourselves, we will force the powerful to respond. We cannot accept the passivity of society, encouraged by public and private powers. Can we shatter manipulation of consciousness? Yes, we can if we want to; but not with a lazy will, not without sacrifice and feebly. It is necessary to have a will with all the consequences entailed by cultivating human freedom and willpower. This will require that some people should break the chains of information, of uncooperative knowledge, of consumerist lifestyles and religious spiritualism; and that others should break the chains of brutalization imposed by destitution.
