Homenaje a Iqbal Masih Domingo de Ramos

El pasado domingo de Ramos, la parroquia San Francisco Javier de Pamplona, quiso unir la celebración de ese día con la realidad de la esclavitud infantil.

Además al terminar la celebración realizaron en la puerta de la Iglesia un homenaje a Iqbal Masih, niño esclavo que fue asesinado a los 12 años por luchar contra la esclavitud infantil y la invitación a participar en la marcha por la solidaridad para decir ¡NO a la esclavitud infantil!

Pascua Juvenil 2014: de todo un poco

Esta Semana Santa nos hemos juntado circulantes y juveniles en el Colegio de los Maristas de Chamberí para celebrar juntos la Pascua. Los circulantes fuimos responsables de organizar esos cuatro días, el menú, juegos a los juveniles, talleres...

Han sido unos días intensos de preparación de la Marcha por la Solidaridad 2014: estuvimos haciendo un flashmob en las calles de Madrid, con música en directo, bailes, pancartas,...

También fueron días importantes para nosotros por la muerte y resurrección del Señor. Tuvimos momentos de oración y de reflexión.

El sábado por la noche tuvimos la vigilia con Eugenio (un cura de Canarias) y estuvo muy amena, aprendimos un montón de cosas y fuimos protagonistas.

Después tuvimos una fiesta con motivo de la Resurrección del Señor y despedida de la Pascua.
Fue una fiesta genial, todos bailamos, reímos y cantamos. Fue una convivencia muy intensa, donde hemos vivido la alegría de ser más amigos luchando juntos contra la esclavitud.

Wang, Sister Carolyn and one student, after having talked about Iqbal Masih, child slavery and 2014 Solidarity March. They are also praying for the end of child slavery and for our March, and especially did so on 16 April, International Day against Child Slavery.

Tampoco este año pudimos ni quisimos olvidar el aniversario del asesinato de Iqbal Masih, el día internacional contra la esclavitud infantil: alzamos nuestro grito: ¡¡¡No a la esclavitud infantil!!

Por eso estamos aquí, por eso seguimos teniendo dos mil millones de razones para ponernos en marcha, para no quer ser cómplices del crimen de la esclavitud infantil: contra el paro y el desempleo de los adultos, contra la esclavitud de los niños, dos caras de una misma moneda.

Desde todos los rincones, en España e Iberoamérica, junto a los niños esclavizados de todo el mundo, juntos en la lucha con todos los que no quieren ser cómplices de este sistema que fabrica esclavos en serie.

On April 16th 1995, Easter Sunday, Iqbal Masih was assassinated. In memory of Iqbal, symbol of the 400 million child slaves, we vindicate April 16th as International Day Against Child Slavery.

Iqbal was a 12-year-old Pakistani boy, a Catholic in a Muslim majority country. He worked as a slave child from the age of 4 for local textile mafias. Along with other children who were trade unionists, he achieved his freedom and began an associated struggle to release millions of child slaves worldwide. This gave him international recognition, and thus he spoke before parliaments and universities in North America and Europe, denouncing the responsibility that the inhabitants of the North have for the misery of children in the South.

When he received an award in Boston he said he would not use the money to build a dinning-hall but to build a school. His intention was to become a lawyer and continue the struggle for the rights of children. Such an affront to the mafia could not be forgiven, and on his return, he was assassinated on Easter Sunday 1995. His death revealed to the world the plight of more than 400 million children living under diverse forms of slavery.

Nineteen years later, the torch lit by the little fighter is being taken up worldwide and events and initiatives to abolish child slavery and to have April 16th declared as International Day Against Child Slavery spring up everywhere.

The Pakistani textile mafia murdered him at age 12 because he had denounced them abroad “Do not buy carpets made by child slaves!” he said in Boston when he received an award for this fight.

He laid down his life for exposing the causes of this crime.
